Man made out of Clay

A written record of human civilisation dates back to the Nile and includes Babylonian Mesopotamian, Akkadian, Greeks, Egyptian, and so on. And one of humankind’s initial interests was searching about their own origin. From the existing knowledge they found out the stuff from which God has created their initial prototype. Since “clay” is the only material that can be molded to a variety of shapes it becomes the fabric of choice.

Here is the story of “a” “God", which later led to all the popular Semitic narratives about the Almighty.

NINHURSAG also spelt Ninhursaga, a mother goddess, one of the four principal Sumerian gods, created all living and non-living beings on the earth. Since they believed giving birth was a divine quality, apparently their popular god was a “woman”.

This female deity with her partner ENKI, lived in “EDNU”. In Ednu, Ninhursag planted 8 trees by taking elements from her womb. In the course of creating life in different parts of the Earth, she left Ednu advising Enki not to eat any fruits from the eight trees.

There is another character called "Adapa", with whom Ninhursag is not on good terms, for various reasons. Adapa came into the picture and compelled Enki to eat from these trees. Enki under the persuasion of Adapa, eats from the forbidden trees.

Ninhursag returned to Ednu only to find Enki breaching her words. Feverish, she cursed Enki into getting 8 different disorders.

Now, is anyone getting a Deja vu  . ?? If you feel any sort of similarities with other popular tales , it's not conspicuous.

In Yazidi mythology, The story of Adapa is negligibly different. God created 7 angels and wanted them to hail him. After getting worn out by their hallelujas,  he created humans and asked the angels to prostrate before the human he created.  6 angels conformed to the god and acted accordingly but the seventh one said he could not do that to a slave, as he could only bow to the creator. God was impressed by the retort and made him the lord of mountains. In this story, his name is Thuvus and his followers are called Yazidis.

In Islam there is another narrative, it goes like this. When the god wanted the angels to bow to Adam, everyone except one agreed and prostrate for Adam. The one who didn’t obey him is called “Iblis”. In this insistence,  god didn’t like the fact that one of his creatures didn’t obey his orders hence  god cursed him.

This is from the Epic of Gilgamesh, which is written in Akkadian language and it's believed to have existed 2500 years before the Bible was believed to be written.

For reference:

These are the names of a few

non-Abrahamic Gods who made humans out of clay

Prometheus - Greek

Sumerian - Enlil Enki Ninmah

Araru - Gilgamesh

Khanum - Egyptian

Phali Thaen - Laotian

Man from clay is not a divine story. It's from these mythologies. The story evolves as time progresses.
